South Africa

South Africa is located on the southernmost tip of the African continent and is filled with diversity. With close to 60 million, the country is a multiethnic society encompassing a wide variety of cultures 11 official languages, and many religions. The landscape varies throughout the country as well.

The Great Escarpment divides the upper Central Plateau from the low areas along the coast. The Northwest region (bordering Namibia and Botswana) is dominated by desert and the Kalahari. The South & Southwestern region is considered the Great Karoo or scrubland. On the Southern tip, is Cape Town and the Cape Region. With its Mediterranean climate, it home to Table Mountain, the wine country and the Garden Route. Central to the country is the Highveld, which is home to much of the country’s farmland as well as Johannesburg. To the east is the Lowveld and Limpopo region, where you can find the Kruger National Park and Sabi Sands. The Eastern Coastline is Kwazulu Natal, which is on the Indian Ocean and provides a more subtropical climate.
